About Acologix
Acologix is focused on the identification, development and commercialization of revolutionary therapies that offer new solutions to the unmet medical needs in the osteo-renal field. Acologix believes that its product candidates with novel mechanisms of action will have distinct advantages over existing therapies and could even open a new therapeutic area. The Company’s product pipeline was initially established through academic collaborations and in-licensing. The profound expertise in drug development and knowledge around unmet medical needs retained by the Company’s management support such activities.
The Company’s most advanced product candidate in the renal area is AC-820 for uremic pruritus, a severe systemic itch which is very common in kidney dialysis patients. We are preparing for a pivotal Phase 3 study in this indication in the U.S. under a special protocol assessment. This compound received its first regulatory approval in Japan in January 2009 for the same indication following successful completion of a Phase 3 study there. Because of its unique mechanism of action, Acologix expects this compound to have broader applications in several other itching indications beyond uremic pruritus.
The most advanced candidate in the hard tissue area is AC-100 for hard tissue repair indications. AC-100 has demonstrated selective hard tissue growth activities in cartilage & bone and dentin in pre-clinical and Phase 2 clinical studies, respectively. Acologix plans to advance this compound through clinical development for key hard tissue indications such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, closed bone fractures, and dentin regrowth through alliances with corporate partners.
Acologix is investigating AC-200, or Phosphatonin, a human endogenous hormone, in preclinical studies for the treatment of renal osteodystrophy and related clinical problems. In a widely accepted chronic kidney disease model, AC-200 has shown a positive impact on several key disorders associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Most noteworthy is the reversal of bone damage as well as regulation of phosphate and parathyroid hormone (PTH).
Acologix has raised aggregate net proceeds of over $75 million through venture financing to date. Acologix is a private company operating at a research and development facility in the San Francisco Bay Area.
