Acologix, Inc. Expands Management Team: David M. Rosen, Ph.D. Appointed Vice President, R&D, Mineral Metabolism Projects

Emeryville, CA-August 19, 2002 — Acologix, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company, today announced further expansion of its management team with the appointment of David M. Rosen, Ph.D., as Vice President, R&D, Mineral Metabolism Projects. Dr. Rosen will lead the product development of Dentonin^®, Acologix's lead compound, scheduled to begin Phase I clinical trials later this year for the treatment of osteoporosis, which will be followed by other skeletal indications including fracture healing and periodontal disease. Dr. Rosen will lead product development of Acologix's skeletal/mineral metabolism projects in the Company's substantial product pipeline (See www.acologix.com).

Dr. Rosen, age 46, joins Acologix with 20 years of biopharmaceutical experience, with significant experience in the research and development of products in the musculoskeletal field. Dr. Rosen was formerly Vice President, Operations, at Hyseq Pharmaceuticals and has held key executive and management positions at Celtrix Pharmaceuticals and Collagen Corporation. During his career Dr. Rosen has covered a broad range of product development functions for therapeutic molecules including basic research, manufacturing, and clinical development.

Acologix is developing six product candidates based upon its proprietary mineral metabolism and extracellular matrix sciences, targeting osteoporosis, hyperphosphatemia and kidney transplant, as well as inflammatory diseases and cancer. Acologix expanded its senior management team this year with an emphasis on business and product development. Early in 2002, Acologix appointed Tim McBride as Chief Business Officer bringing over 20 years of experience in business and corporate development at AstraZeneca, ALZA and Axys Pharmaceuticals, and Christopher Salentine, Ph.D., RAC, as Director of Pre-Clinical Development, having experience in the submission of more than a dozen INDs. With the appointment of Dr. Rosen, the Company continues to build its senior management team.
